About ISO Baby

We are R (birthing mama)  and M (non-birthing mommy and blogger), two twenty-something lesbians living in Northwest Ohio trying to make a baby together. After nearly two years of talking about it, we are finally starting the baby-making process. Our plans right now include an Ovacue, Ovulation predictor kits, Fertilitea, a known donor (KD),  some specimen cups and syringes.

We’ll be using this blog to document our experiences as we go through this exciting and nerve-wracking process.

Hello, I am very encouraged to have found your blog! My girlfriend and I are also trying to get pregnant with a known donor and home inseminations. We started in December at the end of last year, and have been trying regularly since then. We actually got pregnant on the second try (the first try we knew already that our timing was too late, but just tried regardless to get used to the whole process), but miscarried at around 6 weeks which was very disappointing. We have tried twice since, but with no luck so far. I am already finding it hard to stay positive, especially as our donor is going away for the summer soon, but hopefully we will succeed on one of our next two tries before he leaves. Good luck to you both!! I am looking forward to reading more about your efforts.

I just found your blog and am looking forward to reading your story. It is great to find another non bio mom that is the main blogger.

Just a quick question – where did you put an ad for a donor? Any tips? We are looking..

    Thanks!

  4. Hi R & M ,

I found your blog on lesbianfamily.org. I hope you don’t mind me writing to tell you about my book.

I am coeditor of a new anthology on queer parenting, just released in the United States (not sure if it’s available in Australia yet, but we do have one Australian contributor): And Baby Makes More: Known Donors, Queer Parents and Our Unexpected Families. As Dana Rudolph from Mombian says, it’s “a wonderful collection of essays that explore the perspectives of those who have used a known donor, those who have themselves donated sperm or eggs or been a surrogate, and the children created by these acts. It’s a great read on modern families, no matter how you created yours.”

We’ve been getting great reviews from the likes of Bay Windows (“And Baby Makes More is a thoughtful, funny, and poignant volume about the variety of ways we define families today.”), Mombian (“… the kind of rich explorations of LGBTQ parenting we need more of today”), The Dominion (“The stories in this collection are loud and inspiring examples of courage, creativity and love and queer parenting. … This book succeeds in the most urgent of the game: creating a space for the stories to be heard.”) and the Gay & Lesbian Review (“… diverse, poignant, and sometimes very funny…. surprising, enlightening and mandatory reading for any lesbians or gay men thinking of embarking on adventures in the wild world of parenthood.”)

I hope the anthology might be of interest to you, and to your extended circles of family and friends. We’d very much appreciate it if you would pass on the word to anyone you think might enjoy the book, which is available online and at many independent and alternative bookstores. You can find more information as well at my blog: http://mamanongrata.com/?page_id=303.

All the best in your babymaking quest — I hope things progress quickly and smoothly!

    Susan Goldberg
